The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

As I mentioned earlier (much earlier), they're turning one of my favourite novels into a film - Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is going to Hollywood.

Now, in this post I'll try to gather as much information about the upcoming film as I can find on the internet. Many of you won't even be interested in this (I happen to know some of you are), but I'm mainly doing this for myself, because, to be honest, I'm very exited about this. So feel free to ignore this, because it's gonna be a long post.

First off, some essential information:

  • Directed by Garth Jennings
  • Cast:
    • Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent
    • Mos Def as Ford Prefect
    • Zooey Deschanel as trillian
    • Sam Rockwell as Zaphod
    • Bill Nighy as Slartibartfast
    • Stephen Fry as The Book
    • Warwick Davis as Marvin
    • Bill Bailey as the Whale
  • Release date: May 6th 2005.
  • Official website: Link
  • Official poster: You're looking at it.
  • Teaser trailer: Link
The poster you see above is actually the teaser poster - the actual poster is gonna look like this.

As you can see, I already listed the cast above, but now I'm gonna post some faces to go with the names:

---> Martin Freeman plays Arthur Dent

Mos Def plays Ford Prefect --->

---> Zooey Deschanel plays Trillian

Sam Rockwell plays Zaphod Beeblebrox --->

Here is some conceptual art, drawings of what the film should, ideally, look like:

Now for the stuff that realy really whetted my appetite, some actual screenshots:

Yes, you're allowed to call me geekboy. This'll have to be enough for now - there will probably be bucketloads of information and pictures I missed, but hey, I'm only human(ish), right?

Cheers

Like the Lord of the Rings, this movie has been waiting for the technology to catch up and allow it to be given the visuals it deserves.

See you at the foyer on May 6th!

I wonder what happened to Zaphod's second head.

I'm still cynical about this movie but I will give it a try and hope it's good :-)

Pep - you're very right. That said, this film has been in pre-production hell since, like, 1985.

Lies - take a look at this pic; you see how his head is cocked all the way to the right? To be honest, I don't know what they're going to do with the second head - it doesn't really serve a purpose in the books.

Luna - You can't resist, can you? With source-material this good, it can't end up being a bad film. Simple as that.

Again, I'm not really sure if they're actually doing a second head.

Ah yes, the text-based game, is it?

Yeah, I suck at those.

It would be quite a feat if they could plausibly pull off the second head.

We'll see.
