My favourite piece of information.

There is a large kink in the Trans-Siberian Railway, because when the Tsar decreed that the railway should be built, he drew a line on a map with a ruler. The ruler had a nick in it.

Well, this is not strictly true; there is one piece of information I am even fonder of. Apparently, Branwell Brontë (yes, the brother of Emily and Charlotte) died standing up leaning against a mantelpiece, simply in order to prove that it could be done.

Chew on that for a minute.

Cheers

I think your second piece of information was nicked from DNA, was it not? ;o)

I wonder what my favourite pieces of information are...

Clever girl you are - it's from DNA, indeed. Both of 'em.

Both of them also happen to be true, as far as I know, and really, really entertaining.

I am clever, aren't I? Doubly so because I only noticed you were reading The Salmon of Doubt after I'd posted my comment.

I'd forgotten about the Tsar, apparently. But I remember the dongly bits!

Ah yes, the dongly bits - just read that bit today. It really is a priceless collection of stories/essays/speeches/what not, this book.

It's the book I am most fond of, I believe.

It is priceless, isn't it? Douglas Adams seems to be able to do everything right. It's just too bad he got around to doing only a limited number of things right before he died.

Abso-friggin'-lutely. The more I read about and by the man, the more I feel that he will be sorely missed.

If that's how you feel about the late Mr. Adams, remember to run around with a towel on May 25th.

Yes, yes, yes - Towelday! I love to see Douglas Adams' stuff permeating society; towelday, Babelfish, Hitchhiker's Guides. He deserved this kind of legacy.

Oh, and no worries, Lies, you're talking to a fanboy here.

Are you sure you don't mind me sounding terribly obsessed? Cause if you are sure, I'm going to yell at you for forgetting to mention Trillian!

By the way, the movie will be released in my country a day before it'll be opening in your country. Are you jealous yet?

Well, the Belgian border is only an hour's drive away from me, and I'd been looking for a legit excuse to visit the cinema in Antwerp again anyway.

Save a seat for me?

I can, if you don't mind driving on to Brussels instead of staying in Antwerp.
I just hope by then my exams will be over... I'd be really upset if they weren't.

We're talking June here, right? It's January now, so that's 5 full months away!

I assume your current exams will be over by then.

I'm terribly passé, aren't I? Though to be honest, I do write papers myself. Bad ones, granted, but papers nonetheless.

Lies, I never said mine were good.

And Sebastian, Douglas Adams had a massive problem with deadlines, and he didn't turn out all too shabby.

'cept For the fact that he died age 49 .. but that would mean I'm just halfway there!

i like how the comment section has turned into a lengthy correspondance between the liar and the noodle.

i also like how the dutch and those other spectacular europeans spell favourite with a "u."

i'm serious, i like it dammit!

Blogger Martin said...

Yup, us Europeans also spell 'honour' with a 'u', and 'realise' with an 's'. That's because we'd rather be associated with the British than with the Americans.

Not that there's anything wrong with Americans, mind - except for them being mad, of course.

And Lies is a name, not a plural noun.

I was lying when I said I wouldn't lie, you know. Or maybe I'm lying now. And now I'm lying about lying now. This lying business confuses me. No, it does not.
