Atonement.
In 1935, young Briony Tallis, a fledgling writer born into wealth, misconstrues the romance between her older sister Cecilia and the servant's son Robbie. This initially fairly innocent misunderstanding is yanked out of proportion through a violent crime and haunts her and the two lovers throughout the second World War.
The film is a triptych: a 13 year old naive briony, an 18 year old repentent Briony, and an elderly, deeply saddened briony. The latter part of the film, not more than ten minutes long, will break your heart.
At first I was reluctant. I resisted this film. Period pieces are not for me. However, in hindsight, this film, based on the Ian McEwan novel, is one of the best films of 2007. Every single aspect of it (the acting, the direction, the score, the cinematography, etcetera) deserves a superlative of its own. And, as tradition goes, it is also a film which, despite its seven nominations, was brutally overlooked by the Academy.
See this. If you haven't already.

Did you think it was too slow?
Not in the slightest. Truly one of the most perfect films that I have seen in quite a while.
James MacAvoy is brilliant.
I think you might have just persuaded me to see this movie.
Do, do do!
Just thought I would mention that the long, lost Mr. Pinkerton is back! Sort of. He's morphed into Johnny Walker Wisdom. Stop by for a visit!

I thought this was one of the 2 or 3 best movies I saw last year, along with Pan's Labyrinth and Children of Men.
Utterly off topic:
I owe you an apology. Many moons ago you dropped in to my place in the mud, I didn't repay the visit. That's because back then I was a bigger ass than I am now.
Don't even begin to try to figure out what brought on this belated courtesy call. I'm too tired to answer that question myself, that is, if I were to ask myself.
Now I'm here, and find you delightful and beautifully articulate. Better to have arrived late, than never to have arrived at all.
Best Wishes,
A. Murray aka an "ugly mother"
Christ. I would be blushing if I were so inclined.
If you weren't being sarcastic - thank you. And stick around.
If you were - fuck you. And stick around.
