Marathon man.
A disgrace, that's what it is.
You all must've seen it by now - the marathon at the 2004 Olympics in Athens was disturbed when some bloody idiot pushed the then leader, Vanderlei de Lima, into the crowd and held him there for several seconds, ruining both his concentration and his chances at the gold
On the upside, all my praise goes to Vanderlei de Lima, who reacted truly gracefully to all the commotion.
Now that's the Olympic spirit!
Cheers

medal. The idiot turned out to be a defrocked Irish priest called Cornelius Horan (remember that name - if you ever meet him, smack him upside the head), and it turned out that he'd done stuff like this before - in the past he has disrupted numerous events, ranging from Formula one, to tennis, to rugby. And the worst part? He gets off with three years probation and a fine of 3000 euro's. |
On the upside, all my praise goes to Vanderlei de Lima, who reacted truly gracefully to all the commotion.
"I think the Olympic spirit prevailed and I prevailed. I was able to show that determination wins races," de Lima said after receiving his bronze medal at the Olympics' closing ceremony.
"What prevailed here was the Olympic spirit. Never mind the result of the appeal. I'm very happy to have won this medal."
Now that's the Olympic spirit!
Cheers
