♫♪ It's the end of the world as we know it ♪♫

Forget Roland Emmerich's interpretation of the Mayan's prophecies, however pretty and wham-bam-spectacular it may look in his film 2012. That, we all know full well, is not how the world will end. In fact, the world will not end at all. Not in our lifetimes, at least. Or this millenium, for that matter. The Earth will be here for a very, very long time.

Civilisation as we know it, on the other hand? Maybe not so much.

Or so argues Michael Ruppert, a (quote unquote) 'bat-shit insane' conspiracy theorist (or is he?) who paints a compelling and deeply frightening and demoralising picture of our society and its future that hits ever so slightly too close to home.

He tells his story emphatically and charismatically in the documentary Collapse, and while at times he may strike you a boy crying wolf, at other times his story just refuses to stop making sense. Entertaining? Sure. Interesting? Absolutely. Unsettling? Fuck yes.

If our society breaks down (which, considering these last few years, is not that big an if) it will happen in the way he outlines, and has been outlining for years, unheard, ignored and harrassed.

And if it doesn't, well, it makes for a compelling 80 minutes.
