Logophilia.
If there ever was a committee that encourages the application of difficult and little known words, I'd be fucking on it.
Today's word is 'niche'.
According to Dictionary.com, a niche is, besides a crevice in a wall or a rock, "[a] situation or activity specially suited to a person's interests, abilities, or nature". Does that explain anything? No, it does not.
In short, the word 'niche' is so little known, that it's quite niche itself (snort, snort, geddit?!).
Anyway, I'll give an example.
Imagine, if you will, me in the supermarket, in the vegetables isle, being addressed by a Random Person:
□□□
□□□
See, easy as pie.
Now, go practice.
Cheers

Random Person: "Hey, wanna know what my fetish is? Do you? Do you?"
Me: "No, I really don't. I'm just looking for the tomatoes."
RP: "No, no, listen, it's fantastic! You'll want to try it!"
M: "Look here, friend, I really don't want to know. I just need the tomatoes, but I'm not sure if I should be looking over here or in the fruit isle."
RP: "But you don't understand. I get off on penal conflagration! Ooh, yes!"
M: "Seriously, man, I just don't .. you set your dick on fire?"
RP: "Ooh, yes, yes, yesss!"
M: "And .. you .. like it?!"
RP: "Uh huh, uh huh! Mmmmmm."
M: "Wow. That's very .. niche." (<-- Tadaaaa!)
RP: "Oh yes, it's niche, it's very niche, it's soooo niche. It's niche."
M: "You don't know what 'niche' means, do you?"
RP: "No, but who cares? Look, man, you know in what isle I can find the lighter fluid?!"
See, easy as pie.
Now, go practice.

(Can I be on your committee
You underestimate the versatility of the word 'niche'. It's quite capable of being a .. what is that, an adverb? (Spoken like a true English major.)
You sure about the committee? No pay, lousy benefits, crap hours.

Oh, like "that niche word is so last year", where the noun becomes the adverby thing? That's nice!
I still want to, yes.
Yes, exactly like that. Except, it isn't, you know? Last year, I mean.
It's the it-word.
And you're hired.

Count me in. I think we've all found our niche!
Niche is a noun. I don't think it's an adjective or an adverb.
It generally isn't. But it can be.
Langauge is flexible.
