Three kick-ass albums I'm currently listening to a lot.
Screw cryptic titles, right? Are you with me? Are you with me?!
Ah, fuck you, too.
Coldplay - X&Y
It's three years ago, already, since Coldplay released their second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, which wasn't better then their first effort, Parachutes, but it wasn't less good either - it was different enough to be just as good. Combine that with the fact that Rush Of Blood was their breakthrough album in the States, and the pressure's on for album #3.
And they did it again - they've again created an album so different from the previous two that it's difficult to compare. But what's amazing is the fact that, despite being different, they've managed to retain 'their' sound - even if you've never heard it, you know it's Coldplay you're listening to. Chris Martin's characteristic voice plays a big part in that.
X&Y was a long time coming, but it was worth every bit of the wait. How could anyone, ever, OD on this?
Favourite track(s):
Snow Patrol - Final Straw
This one took some getting used to, to be honest. I'd listened to it a few times, and dismissed it as 'not so very good', when a friend of mine started raving about it. He convinced me to give it a few more listens, and I was sold. It's hard to believe that this is the Irish band's third album already - note to self, check out earlier albums.
This album, appropriately titled The Final Straw (I can imagine that they are more than a little frustrated by their failure so far to match critical praise with commercial success), is essential listening, if you ask me. Gary Lightbody's haunting voice, drumming up the lyrics, saying them more than singing them, will stick in your head for days, especially because the band's indie-rock sound is accompanied with all kinds of spiky guitar beats and samples. The best thing to come out of Ireland, right now. And yes, I'm fully aware U2 is Irish, also.
Favourite tracks:
The Killers - Hot Fuss
The Killers are rocking my world, at the moment. I was introduced to them by the Mr. Brightside Remix, done by the Thin White Dukes (which is playing on my computer right now), and I just had to find out who and what the original was. I wasn't let down. Their rendition of 80's punk, updated for the new millenium is simply amazing; they managed to make the 80's (not my favourite musical decade) sound brilliant.
Admittedly, the lyrics will not knock you off your socks, but what this album lacks, lyrically, it more than makes up with its catchy-ness, and frontman Brandon Flowers' charisma and voice; not a perfect voice by a long run, but simply perfect for this kind of music. Another aspect I like it their image; this is a rock band with style and class, something most bands in this genre ditched for an angry, rebellious, punk image.
They sound so British it's hard to believe they're American. Excellent stuff - favourite album of the moment.

There you have it. Go, buy, listen.

I have two out of the three albums. I can't wait to hear snow patrol, I have heard the songs on the London radio. Great site will have to come back.
I've never heard of Snow Patrol or The Killers but I think I might check them out, especially the Killers since I like 80's music.
Dear God, someone else who listens to the same stuff I do. SNOW PATROL even! Whoa...
Great blog, you've just gained a reader :)
From the little I have heard I prefer The Killers, but they are actually both quite okay.
Sunflower and TheatreChick - Glad you enjoyed both my musical picks and my blog; make yourselves at home, there's milk and cookies in the fridge.
Hay - Give Snow Patrol a chance; like I said, they need a few listens. The Killers, on the other hand, rock. Enormously.
Cheers
Lalalalalala lalalalalala
All those three albums are nothing compared to Ashlee Simpson. She fucking rocks. I get an erection everytime she says 'lala'.
Your fridge is empty, by the way.
Get your ass out of the house and go buy some ice cream, you lazy bastard!
Milk and cookies, just as I promised. But leave 'em, they're for the newbies.
Cheers
ill pay you on tuesday for an mp3 today.
Snow patrol please. With a side order of The Killers.
That can be arranged. Any particular tracks?
Cheers
Yeah, yeah, yeah, rub it in.
Cheers
You just love to rub, don't you?
The thinking of me is kinda sweet, though - but, I must say, I'd have hated you for it. It's kinda like the ultimate way of rubbing it in - calling while at the concert.
:-)
Cheers
