Speed Racer.

No matter the critical massacre. No matter the box office, or lack thereof. No matter the striking similarities to Super Mario.

Speed Racer is a dazzling piece of virtuoso filmmaking, the single most attractive film I have ever seen. The Wachowskis (with The Matrix and this, true cinematic visionaries in their own right) make a bold move by saturating this film with bright, garish colours and creative transitions such as screen wiping; elements critics latched on to in order to label this a children's film.

All in all, they may be right. The story is flimsy at best, the plot virtually non-existent, the acting so-so and the entire she-bang is very family oriented, but all of that is entirely subsidiary to the epic visuals; each and every race is a breathtaking bit surreal, seamless, mindbendingly fast, Japanese retro CGI.

Peerless.

Unparallelled.

The epitome of live-action animation, however contradicting that may sound.
