The darknet.

This quote about the 'Darknet' (or deep web), that part of the internet that we everyday users never get to see, is the most interesting thing I've read all week:
"The deep web is currently 400 to 550 times larger than the commonly defined world wide web," [Michael Bergman] wrote. "The deep web is the fastest growing category of new information on the internet … The value of deep web content is immeasurable … internet searches are searching only 0.03% … of the [total web] pages available." -- The Guardian
It's interesting how much the internet resembles, say, an ocean, the suface of which we skim with our scuba gear to ogle at all the pretty things, but beneath that lurks an anonymous darkness, hiding monsters too ugly to face.

Fascinating stuff. I'd love to take a dive.
